*For Steve and Helen
Guide 1.1
Getting a video and audio stream from the camera and mic on a mobile device to a computer, on a local wi-fi network.
*difficulty - Beginner really (It is that easy!)This guide will use software from NewTek. The software is currently free, but I believe it may not remain free following this month: www.newtek.com
Preparation. Make sure all the devices you want to use here are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Go to the app store and install this app, NDI HX Camera on your Apple mobile devices.
- Open the app. Touch the NDI button at the bottom of the screen. When it is solid blue it is broadcasting an AV feed to the network.
- On your MacBook, go to https://ndi.tv/tools/. Install all the tools that are available for your operating system.
- Once installed, open the Newtek NDI Video Monitor. It'll be a blank screen to start with.
- In that app click File on the toolbar, you'll see the name of the phone that was set up first (and still broadcasting?) with the NDI Camera. Click in until you get to [NDI HX Camera] for that device - select that.
- Bingo! You now have a wicked HD spy camera! ;) Also, if you have the mobile device with you whilst doing this, you may want to mute the speakers on your laptop as you'll be hearing a lot of feedback probably (headphones will avoid this problem).
There are versions of the apps for Microsoft operating systems. I think the camera app is Apple only. I highly recommend getting this software on as many devices as possible in the event it ceases to be a free resource.
*I was going to do pictures and everything... but they would have just been candy and not necessary as you'll discover.
UPDATE: Also install the NDI HX Capture IOS app on phones and iPad. This is like the Camera app but broadcasts the screen of your device (i.e. what you see). Super useful!

The next guide will be taking the feed(s) and broadcasting to somewhere useful on the internet.
